We recently worked with an accessibility consultant to ensure that CourseArc content and interactive exercises are accessible. As a result, we completed the following updates:
- added alternative activities for drag-and-drop exercises
- made the flashcard exercises keyboard accessible
- completed enhancements to make CourseArc easier to navigate with a keyboard, including a better skip navigation link and focus indicators
In addition, CourseArc requires ALT text for all images and includes a popup block that can be used for transcripts.
Speaking of accessibility, we wanted to share a video we developed for Howard County Public Schools in Maryland. This video provides an introduction to the Section 508 accessibility standards and was created for course designers/developers, therefore, some of the highly technical standards are not covered. Some of the examples contained in the video are from Canvas, the LMS they use, however the principles will apply to anyone building online content. We hope this is useful!
